Athens-Clarke County DUI Lawyer – Attorney

Generally, a crime must have an intent requirement in order to involve moral turpitude. Most state DUI laws define DUI as driving with a certain blood level of alcohol above the legally permissible under law. There is no reference to intent. The mere fact of being drunk is enough.
Do you know what the police look for when they are on the look out for drunk drivers? According to the National Highway Traffic Administration, the police look for the following symptoms in the descending order:

• Turning with a wide radius
• Straddling center of lane marker
• “Appearing to be drunk”
• Almost striking object or vehicle
• Weaving
• Driving on other than designated highway
• Swerving
• Speed more than 10 mph below limit
• Stopping without cause in traffic lane
• Following too closely
• Drifting
• Tires on center or lane marker
• Braking erratically
• Driving into opposing or crossing traffic
• Signaling inconsistent with driving actions
• Slow response to traffic signals
• Stopping inappropriately (other than in lane)
• Turning abruptly or illegally
• Accelerating or decelerating rapidly
• Headlights off
